Conference Site and Accommodations

The EFRI Conference will be held at the FDIC L. William Seidman Center, located at 3501 Fairfax Drive in Arlington, Virginia.  If you require overnight accommodations, we have a block of guest rooms reserved at the FDIC Residence Center, which is adjacent to the Seidman Center, at 1001 North Monroe Street. Our group rate is

$150 plus tax (currently 10.25%).  To make your reservations, please call the Residence Center at 703-516-4630 or 877-275-7853 before our block is full.  Reference the “NSF EFRI Conference” to secure our group rate.  You can learn more about the Seidman Center and the Residence Center on their website.

Security Note: The FDIC buildings are secured government facilities.  As such, we must provide them with a list of attendees and guests a minimum of 24 hours in advance of arrival.  You will be required to present government-issued photo identification and wear a “Visitor” tag in order to gain entry.

Local Travel and Parking
The Seidman Center is easily accessible via public transportation if you are traveling through Washington Reagan National Airport.  Take the Blue Line Metro going towards Largo Town Center.  At the Rosslyn station, change to the Orange Line traveling to Vienna.  Disembark at the Virginia Square Metro station and take the escalator through the main exit.  When you step off the escalator, turn around and the Seidman Center is at the corner of Fairfax Drive and Monroe Street.  Enter the Center through the Building C Entrance.  (If you are spending the night before the Conference at the Residence Center, the two buildings are connected by a covered pedestrian walkway.)

If you plan to travel through Washington Dulles International Airport or Baltimore/Washington International Airport, we recommend either taking a taxi or pre-arranging shuttle transportation, as Metro service to and from these facilities is not yet available.  Approximate one-way taxi fares are $50 - $60 for Dulles and $55 - $75 for BWI.  The SuperShuttle also serves both of these airports.

Security Note: For those planning to drive to the Conference and using the Seidman’s parking facility, we must provide your name and your vehicle’s make, model, and license plate number to them at least 72 hours prior to arrival.  Our group is allowed only 10 parking spaces at the Seidman, but other public parking is available in the vicinity.  Please refer to these driving instructions.

Cell Phones and Internet Access
Cell phone access in the Seidman Center is severely limited, and wireless Internet access is unavailable.  Wireless Internet access at the Residence Center, however, is available and complimentary.  We respectfully request that you turn off your cell phones during the sessions, and check your voicemail outdoors during the breaks.  If you need to provide someone with a number where you can be reached at the Seidman in an emergency, they may call 703-516-4630 and leave a message with the Front Desk.  Seidman staff will bring the message to the meeting.

Climate and Attire
Historically, the Metropolitan DC area experiences an average high of 470 and an average low of 310 in the month of December.  Regular travelers to the area know that aberrations are not uncommon during the winter months.  So please check your favorite weather source before traveling, or the Seidman Center’s online Destination Guide offers a five-day forecast to help you plan your trip.  Business and business-casual attire are both appropriate for the meeting.

Meals
The Conference will provide a continental breakfast, working lunch, and morning and afternoon breaks.  If you plan to arrive the day before the Conference, please know that dining facilities are the Seidman Center are limited.  However, the immediate neighborhood offers myriad options for dinner and entertainment.
